Funding The Society

The financial support provided by the city plays a crucial role in sustaining our operations, including funding for information desk salaries and archival materials.

As a non-profit 501(c) organization, the Navajo County Historical Society also maintains a small book and gift shop.

Located in the main reception area, our shop offers a variety of publications covering topics such as the Petrified Forest National Park, Route 66, Native American cultures, regional cookbooks, and archaeology.

We also stock a range of merchandise, including petrified wood, key chains, postcards, coins, magnets, and children’s books.

As a non-profit operation, we are pleased to offer our merchandise tax-free.

Accessible To All

We strive to make our historic courthouse accessible to all visitors. A ramp on the north side of the building, accessible from Buffalo Street, provides entry for physically handicapped guests.

Keeping History Alive

Our museum, accredited by the Arizona Historical Society, is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of objects, photographs, and documents that reflect the history and heritage of Navajo County.

With over 70 exhibit areas, housed within the historic courthouse and annex wing, we offer a comprehensive look at the past—all with no admission fee.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, generously contributing over 1,000 hours each year to maintain, document, and preserve our collections.

Their dedication ensures that our museum remains a vibrant and informative resource for the community.

Governance

The Navajo County Historical Society is governed by a Board of Directors, led by a Board President and a Director elected by the board. The Board is composed of local business owners and community members just like you! Together, they guide our efforts in fulfilling our mission.
